Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples
A 7 day intriguing and exciting tour of Vesuvius and the historic Bay of Naples designed to entertain and delight.
Wonder at the beauty of the Bay of Naples and the Amalfi coastline and experience first hand the well preserved cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum dramatically buried during the eruption of Vesuvius in AD79.
Day 1
Arrive and transfer to friendly hotel, where a welcome drink and discussion about the forthcoming schedule is planned.
Day 2
Today we will begin with a visit to Campi Flegrei, to the west of Naples, to witness unique examples of 'bradyseism'. In the afternoon we will visit nearby Solfatara to experience and examine the bubbling mud pools and steam vents found there.
Day 3
A visit to Vesuvius to enjoy the views over Naples and the bay followed by a visit to the Roman town of Herculaneum buried by the well documented eruption of A.D.79.
Day 4
Today we will enjoy a hydrofoil journey to visit to the beautiful island of Capri, to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy an optional visit to the Blue Grotto.
Day 5
This morning we will visit the famous site of Pompeii which has been exceptionally well preserved following the volcanic eruption nearly two thousand years ago. The rest of the day will be spent savouring the delights of Italian wine in a wine tasting afternoon and vineyard tour.
Day 6
This morning we will drive along the spectacular Amalfi Coast arriving at the ancient Greek site of Paestum, with temples dating back to 6th century.
Day 7
This morning we will visit the National Archaeological museum in Naples city, which houses some of the best artifacts recovered from both Pompeii and Herculaneum.
The tour will conclude after lunch.
